The royal hotel history
The royal hotel was originally called Stacie’s hotel and assembly room’s and built in 1772 on this site, in 1891 Stacie’s hotel was demolished and replaced by the current hotel which was later built in 1897 the Victorian period.
The royal hotel took 100 men 2 years to complete at a cost of 25 thousand pounds including labour!! And it’s doors opened in 1899.
King George 111 was a frequent visitor to the original hotel and enjoyed it’s facilities and queens ballroom his majesty liked Weymouth and melcombe reigis so much he even owned property next to the hotel.
During world war 11 the American soldiers were based here and it is said that the legendary Glenn miller may have played here with his band to servicemen and women.
The hotel is also said to be haunted on the 4th floor over the many years there have been various stories about our resident ghost.
Today the is a bay branded hotel and proud to be part of shearrings hotel group
